There is growing evidence that consumers expect business and destination managers to ensure that the travel services offered to consumers are more sustainable. Consumers need clear and reliable information on the efficient use of natural resources and the social and economic impacts of accommodation, destinations and tour operators. How can the consumer identify which type of accommodation uses the least amount of water per night per bed? How much longer are we going to book accommodation in a hotel   with green certification only to discover when we enter the room that the lights are switched on, the TV is telling you who you are, the thermostat is set at 15 ° C and a card has replaced the switch that keeps several lights switched on automatically? We need to do better. What will the next generation of certifications be like?
